Empowering lives, restoring hope, and nurturing children for a better future in Uganda.
Dove Love Foundation began as a vision sparked by the pain and hardship of Andrew Odoi. Growing up in poverty, he knows what it means to be forgotten.
As a child, he was raised by a single mother on the island. ... Life on the island revolved around fishing; it was the cornerstone of the economy and livelihoods. But with his father’s disappearance, the family’s stability was shattered, and the burdens of survival fell heavily on his mother’s shoulders. Despite the hardships, Andrew remained determined to pursue an education. Every day, he walked over 10 kilometers to reach the nearest government primary school, fueled by the hope of a brighter future. But life was tough—he survived on a single meal a day during that time. His mother, already struggling to make ends meet, couldn’t afford to pay for his meal or porridge at school, leaving him to navigate hunger and educational challenges. By God’s grace, he made it through high school on bursaries, and was fortunate to attend university with the help of a government loan scheme. As time passed, the government imposed restrictions on fishing, crippling the once-thriving community. Families who had relied on fishing for generations found themselves in dire straits, with limited opportunities for livelihood. The economic downturn left many families destitute, unable to provide for their children. The island became a place of hardship, where survival was a daily struggle. Tragically, the situation led to an increase in orphaned children due to several factors, the high spread of HIV on the island had kicked a way people leaving behind their offsprings, some Parents overwhelmed by financial ruin, were forced to abandon their offspring. Witnessing the plight of these vulnerable children stirred something deep within Andrew. He couldn’t bear to see them suffer as he had, and so, alongside a colleague, he embarked on a mission to make a difference. Together, they started Dove Love Charity Organization, a beacon of hope in the midst of adversity. They secured a parcel of land and erected temporary structures to provide shelter, education, and nourishment to the needy children in Uganda. Their goal is simple yet profound: to shift the paradigm, showing that life isn’t solely defined by fishing but by the transformative power of education. Through Dove Love, they strive to rewrite the narrative, offering these children a chance at a brighter future. It’s a journey fueled by compassion, resilience, and unwavering determination—a journey that Andrew is honored to be part of.
